Storing your food in the best places like the fridge and freezer, or indeed the cupboard, will help your food stay fresher for longer đĄ But how do you know where to store it correctly?
Tip 1.
Only half of us know that our fridge should be below 5ÂșC. If your fridge is too warm then perishable foods like milk will go off much quicker. Set your fridge to the right temperature so that your milk and other food items can last three days longer.
Tip 2.
If you have a wide assortment or surplus of seasonal vegetables, chop them up and blanch them in boiling water. Then, put them in a container and theyâll be ready to cook or roast when needed. For seasonal fruits (especially berries) I simply wash, bag, freeze and use them for smoothies, oatmeal and bakes during the colder months.
Tip 3.
Store your root vegetables in sand. Yes SAND. The method of storing root vegetables in sand indoors not only provides an efficient way for you to reduce waste, but also helps you conserve energy, save money, and put delicious, quality produce on the table for months to come – no root cellar needed! Youâll need âplayâ sand to pack the harvested vegetables. Play sand is a fine-grade sand that has been washed, dried and screened and is available at most home improvement stores.
